We left home at about 9am later than planned as usual (but we do like to work off WA time lol) We headed down the M1 for our traditional first stop and breakfast at Chinderah. I swear this is the slowest and most useless McDonalds in Australia. We headed further south down the Pacific Highway having a toilet stop at one of the rest stops and giving Soxy (our cat) a chance to stretch. We cannot believe how well she is travelling we expected the first couple of hours to be full of her meowing and fretting but no she just curled up on the seat and went to sleep when she wants a stretch she just moved over to the next person and every now and then watched out the window. Next stop was Mrs Alwards at Halfway Creek she wasnt home but Jeff and Ronald were. We boiled the kettle and made 2 minute noodles for lunch had a bit of a catch up with Jeff and Ronald and a look at the Kangaroos that roam around their property. Then it was back on the road again.
Back on the road again and our next stop was Macksville where we filled the car with petrol stretched our legs let Soxy have a stretch then back to it. We arrived at Australian Motor Home Park at about 7.30pm just in time to set up in the dark again. So we set up and had a delicious pasta for dinner and were in bed and asleep by 10.30pm.
Before bed though kids did spot a cute little tree frog I say cute because it stayed on the tree and didnt come near me.
Sunday 19/12/10
After a nice leisurely sleep in and pancakes for breakfast cooked by Georgia we then had a lovely hot shower in very clean amenities. The twins and I decided to take a stroll around the park to see what it was like and we were not disappointed at all.
Firstly the herb garden that is there is amazing and is available for the guests to pick and use as they wish. There was spinach, tomatoes, basil, parsley, rosemary, chili it inspired me to do one at home. It was these little touches that made it such a lovely place to stay.
We wondered up and looked at the club room, which had a large TV and kitchen area along with a great bbq area. This would be great if you encoutered a lot of rain so you could get out of the CT.
Darrell went for a drive to Raymond Terrace to find some fuses that had blown in our 12volt adaptor. Once he got back we went on the teddy bear bush walk this is an absolute must for anyone who stays there. Such a simple idea which just add to the charm of the place the kids loved this bush walk and all the teddys we are going to buy a teddy bear and send down to Lorraine to add to the walk.
After our teddy bear walk it was back to camper trailer for lunch of cheerios which again was cooked by Georgia. Jack finally joined us in the land of living at lunchtime oh the joys of travelling with teenagers. After lunch I chose to have a nanny nap while the kids went and played aqua golf.
After aqua golf Darrell and the kids went fishing, Thomas loves fishing and out fished everyone catching 4 and also getting the biggest catch of the day. Catch and release fishing is another of the activities offered here.
Well tonight it was sausage sandwiches for dinner and then headed over to the communal campfire to chat with some fellow campers. We were amazed at how many people call their caravans/motorhomes home made me very envious. The people who were next to us had been there for 16 weeks and will be there until March when they are going to start heading north. Another couple had just picked up there Winnebago and were there indefinately while the sale of their house and cars were all finalsed before they headed off to the unknown bloody lucky people. I still cant tempt Darrell to sell the house and head off but I will keep trying. We decided to have a fairly early night as in the morning we were heading off to our destination Ulladulla. Well what a night we encountered bloody hell the storm and rain my god. The rain was amazing it was so heavy and blew in every direction and we were woken to a drip drip drip you guessed it the tent leaked in the far corner where Taz was sleeping. We think the leak was due to a few factors a) not being seasoned properly, b) CT was set up on a slope c) just the sheer force of the weather. Oh well thats camping and its the first time we have been rained on. Once we dealt with the leak and went back to sleep we were woken about an hour later by the wind and yes you guessed it the annex was being blown down. Out goes Darrell and a few choice words muttered and then the statement "NOW I KNOW WHY LINDSAY SAID DONT EVER NOT PUT ALL YOUR GUY ROPES UP AS YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THE WEATHER WILL DO IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT" lesson learned the hard way lol. All I could think of after that was the dread of packing up a wet tent. But alas mother nature was on our side rain stopped at about 4am and with all the wind tent was dry when it was time to pack up.
Monday 20/12/10
After breakfast of pancakes again we packed up and were on our way.
We loved the Australian Motorhome Park, it was extremely clean, very well maintained, it is run by a lovely lady by the name of Lorraine who just cannot do enough for you to make you stay enjoyable. It is very economical, and lots of little things to keep you entertained. They have games nights, happy hours for you if your stay is longer. The only negative thing about this park is the highway noise as it is right alongside the Pacific Hwy and the trucks at night is very constant but for us this did not affect us in any way and the pros by far out weigh the one and only negative. We would stay there again and highly recommend it.
Please dont be put off by the name they welcome all travellers whether you have a motorhome, caravan, tent, or camper trailer.
Thankyou Lorraine for making our stay so enjoyable.
