James Sharp Park, Canungra

Friday 12/11/10
We left home at around 5pm and headed out to Canungra.  We have visited Sharp Park as day visitors before but never camped there.  We had planned this trip with Steve Janke and his 3 kids while his wife Fiona was gallavanting down in Sydney with her mummy lol they camp at Sharp Park often.  We arrived around 5.45pm and chose a lovely private spot overlooking the bush with the river just below.  Right beside us was a track straight down to the water.

This is the view we got when we walked outside our CT.  It was so tranquil and peaceful.

This being our second outing we were a little quicker at setting up.  While we set up kids all ran around exploring and finding new friends.  While we put up the CT Steve put up his tent and he did quite a good job I must say.  Once we finished setting up we cooked up dinner we always take easy stuff for the first night as after setting up we want quick and easy, so spaghetti with stir through sauce and two minutes noodles were shared amongst the two families.  The toilet block was about 150 metres from us and they were very very clean and well maintained flushing toilets however no shower facilities which does not bother us as that is part of camping.  On my visit to the toilet at night the kids managed to find a frog and know how much I am scared of them they took great delight in scaring me bloody kids.  As it was a warm night we decided we wouldnt light the fire and just have an early night as we knew the kids would all be up relatively early in the morning.

Saturday, 13/11/10
Well thank goodness we decided on an early night as those bloody noisey Janke kids were up at the sparrow fart time of 5am sheesh dont they know I need my beauty sleep lol.  As I was awake I decided why not get up and face the day head on something I would not ever consider at home as I am definately not a morning person.  Tom and Taz finally woke up at about 6.30am poor Khy was sitting very patiently waiting for his partner in crime to wake up.  So it was pancakes for breakfast something that I think will definately be a Hume camping tradition.  After breakfast it was clean up then take a walk around the park for some photos it really is a pretty place.

As Darrell had to dart back home to pick up his pay and check on the cat as Georgia had rung in a panic saying something was wrong with Soxy (which turned out she had been in a fight and was a bit sore naughty girl) I went and sat beside the river to watch the kids swim they had an absolute blast and spent the entire weekend swimming.

The people camped in the tent next to us had heard Steve inflating his air bed with an electric pump and came over and asked us if we could inflate their big Barbie car they had and told the kids they could play with it and that they did they spent hours floating down the river starting down at the deep end and ending down at the bridge they had an absolute ball.

Once Darrell got back from town armed with new 12 volt LED lights woohoo we cooked up some cheerios for lunch gosh they make for a quick and easy camp meal and the kids love them next time I think I will get 2kg's lol.  After lunch it was back down the river for some more swimming this time the kids got Steve old air mattress and floated around.  Its amazing how kids when they are taken from the home environment how they get hours of fun from simple things alot like when we were kids.

Later in the afternoon Tom and Khy decided to try their hand at fishing this lasted about 2 minutes and yep they got the line all tangled up so they gave up on that idea.

As they day was running out it was getting time to think about lighting the fire and cooking dinner.  While the boys lit the fire the girls got in their pj's and ready for dinner.

Tonights dinner was very yummy sausages and hamburger patties with some salad.

So after dinner it was time for the kids to do what they had patiently been waiting to do all day and that was to find frogs to scare me and that they did very well.  Rotton little sods lol.

It was then time to roast marshmallows and play with sparklers.  Camping is so much fun.  It was now time for kids to hit the bed.  As if today was anything to go by they were going to be up bright and early tomorrow.

Sunday 14/11/10
What a surprise the kids slept in till just after 6am good little munchkins they were.  Today for breakfast the kids all had cereal and us grown ups had yummy bacon and eggs.  While the kids played and said goodbye to the friends they had made as people were leaving we decided to start to pack up as the skies were turning grey and it looked like it might rain we really didnt want to pack up a wet camper and have to set it back at home to dry out.  So at about 12.30pm we were all packed up and ready to go home we said our goodbyes to the Jankes and we each went our seperate ways.

Overall we had beautiful weather no rain and Sharp Park a fantastic spot to camp very clean and well maintained, bookings not required in off peak times.  The ranger comes around and collects fees at about 6pm it cost us $34 for 2 nights 2 adults and 2 kids, you can purchase timber from them, camp fires are allowed in the camp rings scattered through out the park.  There are no showers but toilets are very clean, there is drinking water and creek water.  This will definately be a regular spot for us as we absolutely loved it and its nice and close to home.  If anyone ever wants to camp there let us know we will be in it.

Now its off to decide when and where our next adventure will be.
