Jimmys Farm, Halfway Creek

Saturday 1/1/11
Happy New Year its 1am and Darrell decides lets go.  Its funny how everything changes when you have a CT you keep thinking i want to arrive in daylight so if that means driving at night so be it.  We left Burrill Lake at 1am and drove through to Nowra where we got fuel.  Then we drove straight through to the Ourimbah service centre where we stopped for a couple of hours sleep.  The roads where amazingly quiet being NYE and all.

We arrived at Halfway Creek at 3pm after a rest and a coffee we then headed down to find a spot to set the CT up.  Jimmy has a fenced off area down near the billabong so the cattle and horses dont come in.  Once we were set up Tom got the mower and mowed the area so it was all nice.  Once he finished mowing the camp area he went up and mowed around Jimmys shack as well.Thomas really likes Jimmy and follows him around like a shadow.

After the kids had a quick swim and fish down at the billabong we cooked up a bbq with Jimmy and Jeanette for dinner.  We lit the campfire and just chilled around the fire catching up.  Darrell and Jimmy have known each other since before they started school now thats a lot of years lol.  As we had been travelling all day we opted to have a fairly early night.

Sunday 2/1/11
While I had a nice leisurely sleep in Darrell was up bright and early and down at the billabong fishing he is so competitive he just wants to say he caught the biggest and most fish.  Once I got up we had a nice batch of pancakes for breakfast.  After breakfast, Tom was up mowing with Jimmy, Darrell was on the tractor slashing, Jack went over to Jeff's and harrassed him to get the motorbike going.  While everyone was doing there thing i was totally chillaxin with a book.  I received a James Patterson book for xmas and I wanted to finish the one I had so I could start on the next one.

After lunch we all went down to the billabong for a swim and relax it was so hot that they all convinced me to get in or they were going to throw me in.  To start with it has to be 100 degrees for me to swim and i have to be able to see the bottom as I cant stand the thought of what might be swimming around me we all know my love of creepy crawlys.  So let me say I succumbed to the pressure and got in with my eyes closed and a bit of squealing lol oh that horrible slimey feeling yuck but once I got over that initial shock it was beautiful so refreshing.  The kids love swinging off the rope but no way in hell would i ever consider that.  God bless Jimmy he put in a piece of carpet at the edge so I could get in and out without feeling the slime, but alas I now have some aqua shoes which I will take with me next time.  I really am glad I had that swim.

Yes believe it or not thats me in the water

After our swim it was time to get the camp fire all happening as tonight we were cooking a roast in the fire.  .  Jimmy was giving me lessons as i want to get a camp oven so we can do this on our camping trips.  We had pork, potatoes, pumpkin, sweet potato, broccoli and carrot now this dinner was delish.  Once again we sat around the campfire talking and having a great old time.

Jimmy gave Tom a hat for helping him mow the lawns now he may as well given him a million dollars as Tom thought the hat was just it.  He wore it very proudly even sleeping in it when he went to bed.
Tonight Taz noticed a cicada was hatching from its shell this was just so amazing to watch I wish I had of had a video camera to film it.  Nature is just amazing the adults and kids alike really enjoyed watching this transformation.  Can you notice anything, but it seems I am not so freaked at creepy crawlies I am getting better.

Monday 3/1/11
Today it was much the same swimming, relaxing, reading, tractors but Jeff came over with the motorbike he and Jack managed to get going so that got Jack out of our hair he was happy to ride it all day.  Spud, Belinda and Liam also came up today Taz, Liam and Tom had so much fun collecting the cicada shells and all the bugs.  We had a great bbq with delicious potatoes done in the fire.  And we had a large gathering tonight around the campfire. Lots of laughs with good friends.  Darrell, Jeff, Jimmy, Ronald and Spud all grew up together in Ingleburn its something special to say you have friendships that have lasted almost half a century. We had an awesome night tonight.

Today Jeanette and I decided we would go to Grafton for a look around the shops.  Because they were in the truck and it had been raining she hadnt really left the farm since they got there.  So off to Grafton we went.  I couldnt believe how good the shopping centre there is.  It has everything you need Big W, Target lots of specialty shops yep I could live in Grafton.  And what a small world it is while we were in Woolworths we bumped into Jeanette's niece who is from Western Australia.  Once we left Grafton we called in to see Mrs Alward as I hadnt actually seen her yet and she is just such a lovely person while we were at her house Ronald decided he would come over to the farm with us for the night.  We had a relatively quiet dinner on our own tonight sausage sandwiches and potatoes in the fire again.  After dinner, Jimmy, Jeanette, Spud and Ronald came down and we had an awesome time round the campfire.  I dont know what it is about campfires but it sure brings out the best in people.  They only thing was we missed Jeff tonight as he didnt make it over.

Wednesday 5 /1/11
Well today was the worse day of our whole holiday it was our last day, none of us wanted to pack up, none of us wanted to go home but unfortunately all good things have to come to an end so the kids got some last minute fishing and swimming in, Jeff lent us this nifty little 12 volt shower to use and i was getting desperate for a shower while i was washing my hair i felt a funny lump in my head and when Darrell checked it I had a tick.  Once that was pulled out we got back to the last bit of fun. Darrell did some more tractor mowing.  Then it was time to pack up it was a race against the weather.  We just got the CT packed up and the heavens opened it absolutely poured down.  We finally left the farm at about 5pm and quickly called over to Mrs Alwards to give Jeff the shower back and use a real toilet lol, then it was off home.  It poured down rain the whole way home at some stages we could not even see the front of the bonnet on the car I am just glad we got packed up before the rain.  So far we have been luck and not had to pack up a wet tent.  I hope our luck keeps holding out.  We finally got home about 10pm Wednesday night.

  1. Sounds like you have the Perfect Place to go camping when you require. Funny how you mention mowing the ground before setting up ... don't know how many times we've thought about throwing the mower in LOL!

    Nice fish Darrell!!
