Sharp Park, Canungra

Friday 18/3/11
Well this weekend we were back to Sharp Park at Canungra we love it there.  So close to home and we went with our friends the Janke's.  Some people say we are crazy yes we knew the weather forcast was for rain but if you cancelled everytime they predict rain you would never get the camper trailer out. We arrived about 5.30pm Friday night just in time to set up in the dark we have this pretty much down pact now.  When we arrived the Janke's were already there beating us by about 15 minutes. We set up on Riverbend Crossing side right down the front in the overflow area near the road.  Was a great flat spot overlooking the river but a long long way from the toilets not much fun when you got to do number 2's as our portaloo is strictly number 1's only.  When we arrived it was very overcast but didnt actually start raining til about midnight.  So once we were set up it was yummy hamburgers for dinner.  After dinner we all gathered around the campfire and played a game of I went to the shop lol yes we got carrots, bananas, cadbury chocolates lol sorry private joke you had to be there I guess.  We decided to have a fairly early night as we had to go back down the coast in the morning for Tom's football.

Saturday 19/3/11
Well after heavy rain all night and still raining we rang to see if football was still on and yes it was sow after breakfast the Jankes headed off to there games at Helensvale and we headed into home to pick up Georgia before going to Burleigh for our game and meeting the Jankes back there.  I just gotta say go Southport Tigers 10's Gold you boys rock 22 nil that was a huge effort and I think the first time in 4 years you beat Burleigh Bears.  After football we stopped at the camping shop to get toilet chemicals and then back to Canungra we go.  As we knew the Jankes (with Tom) were not far behind us I decided to get lunch underway today it was cocktail frankfurts.  After lunch the kids went of playing in the pouring rain didnt stop them swimming or having fun.  Actually didnt stop us adults either.  It was so good to have Georgia out with us as she doesnt come camping very often with us but she had a good time too and is thinking of coming next time.  Cause of the rain we decided we would put up one of the sides on the annexe this was our first time of doing this.

Rain didnt stop the kids from having fun
 Our view from our campsite
The side of the annexe can you see the rain falling

While the kids were off playing and getting wet and muddy we adults just chilled out under our big living area tarp.

Our living area for the weekend you had to dodge the drips
The boys didnt care they were down to their last set of dry clothes they just put on plastic ponchos
boys will be boys
The boys chillin trying to stay dry
While I wandered around taking photos my precious husband had to have his nanna nap or is that his beauty sleep.  And it still hadnt stopped raining.  While the kids were off playing, Darrell was asleep I got some study done.

Looking down the river from the bridge the rain kept getting on my lens
After our sausage sizzle dinner we even managed a camp fire in the rain and the kids had fun with the sparklers.  We had more games of I went shopping and while I did some more study Fiona, Emily and Georgia played yahtzee and Tom and Khy were exploring man those two never stop they are such good friends even at night they have their torches, the kitchen colanders and buckets and down to the river they go looking for yabbies prawns or whatever they can find and yes frogs to scare me but i have to say they didnt get any frogs this time.  Taz had an early night and Darrell and Steve kept the wet fire going the boys had been very quiet and we could no longer see their torches flashing around so Fiona jumped up ready to find them and scold them when in the pitch black down beside my car she tripped over the fire ring and got a nasty cut on her leg.  Poor Fifi it really hurt and man she lets our some strange noises.

Sunday 20/3/11
Well that was a wet night inside and outside the camper trailer.  It seems to leak where the poles touch the canvas and where the matteress on the bed touches so end result a few drips and a wet matteress.  Guess there are some adjustments to be made.  We had a nice leisurely breakfast of pancakes then I snuck of back to bed for a bit more sleep shhhhhhhhhhhh dont tell anyone.  It was still raining but didnt dampen our spirits we were having a great time.  Rain equals mud, mud equals 2 boys having the time of their life oh and a couple of girls too.

About lunchtime the rain started to ease up a little bit and the thought of packing up a wet camper trailer was rather daunting so we decided to put a family vote in place pack up a wet camper or stay anothe night and hope it will dry out tomorrow.  How silly were we no choice really it was a clear decision (no votes to go home) that we would stay another night.  Seeing we were staying another night Fiona and I did a quick trip into town to get some food for dinner.  On the way back the police pulled me over for a RBT lucky for me diet coke doesnt put you over the limit.  We spent the afternoon down beside the river hanging out with the kids.  Fiona and I decided to walk through the river and cross over and go visit some people on the other side now for the funniest part of the weekend I slipped up the hill landed flat on my knees I had to stay in this positon for a couple of minutes because I couldnt stop laughing.  Some people in the campsite above were roaring with laughter and asked for a replay as they missed the action.  And lucky for me Darrell and Steve missed it too otherwise I would of never heard the end of it.  Hamburgers for dinner tonight with potatoes cooked in the fire and left over salads.  For dessert was toasted marshmellows and some cadbury chocolate. The rain had stayed away and was just a light drizzle every now and then.

Well tonight was a funny night Darrell went to bed early as he was getting up early to go to work then coming back in the afternoon to collect us. Steve decided to have a fairly early night so Fiona and I decided we would sit up and play word games with the kids my god that was hilarious apparently we were told the next day they could hear us over the other side of the river laughing and everytime we laughed they laughed coz our laughter was so contagious.  The funny thing was we really dont know what we were laughing at, I was laughing because Fiona was laughing, the kids were laughing because we were laughing it was just so funny.  I cant remember laughing like that for a long long time my sides were hurting and I had tears running down my face.

Monday 21/3/11
Well Darrell left at 6am to go down the coast to work and Georgia went with him so she could go to school and she had to go to work after school.  So we just spent the morning relaxing by the river.  It was a beautiful sunshining day with lots of heat to the sun finally.  So out came the mattress to be dried out, the sleeping  bags were all hung over the rope Darrell had set up.  Perfect day everything dried out and we got to pack up a dry camper trailer with a dry mattress and dry sleeping bags and we dont have to set it up at home.  Slowly through the day I had everything packed up so when Darrell got back at 5pm all we had to do was fold the tent down and put everything in the trailer everything else was done.  We said bye to our camping buddies at about 3 pm then Tom Taz and I had a nanna nap while we waited for Darrell to come and collect us.  Sadly it was the end to our perfect wet camping weekend.  The highlight for the kids being down the front near the road was watching all the army trucks go buy and hearing the gunfire practise they thought that was pretty cool.

The perfect wet weekend.  Would we camp again knowing it was going to rain YES DEFINATELY.

We have now spent 31 wonderful nights in our camper trailer.

Where to next??? oh thats right back here to Sharp Park in 2 weeks bring it on.
